The entrance of the mine before it has been closed. Hsin-Hsie-Tong Coal Mine was located at Nan-Juang, Miao-Li. I visited there first time in 1997 when it was stop working temporary. But everything has gone when I visited there again at Dec., 1999.

瑞三煤礦是全臺產量最大的煤礦。自1946年至1990年收坑為止,總產量達6,741,118公噸,佔全臺(相對期間)的5.23%。瑞三煤礦位於新北市瑞芳區侯硐里,緊臨侯硐車站,礦區範圍1,852公頃,前身為日據時期顏雲年與日本人木村久太郎合辦開採的「久年二坑」。開採之初僅支援金瓜石、九份地區所需要之燃料。不久,雲泉商會開採大粗坑煤礦、成立基隆會社,此坑被併入會社,改名為「基隆會社瑞芳三坑」,即「瑞三煤礦」名稱之由來。其後瑞三由煤礦聞人李建興向基隆會社包租,光復後曾短暫移交工礦公司,1949年李建興即向工礦公司承購礦業權,一直到1990年收坑為止。瑞三煤礦的本坑是一條長約3公里的平坑,再由本坑間隔開闢若干斜坑深入地下。到了1970年代,為了深部開採所需,又開闢了瑞平斜坑(坑口於平溪月桃寮),以求貫通深部的採煤坑道,斜坑長約1,377.4公尺。由地質觀察推測出,此地的煤礦蘊藏量應極為豐富,比戰後總產量為大,若再往下挖掘,可能仍有大量的煤炭可供開採。瑞三因面積廣大且礦坑分散,很早就使用機關車從事運搬工作,煤炭集中於侯硐火車站旁之選煤場,經洗選後即由場內火車運出。1970年瑞三員工人數合計有1,508人,曾經是極為熱鬧的地方。

早年使用於瑞三煤礦的雨宮(Amamiya)製作所製T11型6噸B-tank蒸汽機車,展示於(財)臺中市文教基金會民俗公園之一隅,由李建興先生捐贈,1976年起展出。臺中市旅順路二段。
該機車原為日本海軍使用於澎湖軍港610mm軌距專用線,戰後被轉至瑞三煤礦,更改輪距為1067mm,當做臺鐵貨車之調車機使用。

曾展示於臺北兒童交通博物館內的瑞三煤礦3號加藤柴油機車。根據1983年之資料顯示,該礦當時有6輛同等級之機車正在使用
;其中2、3、5號為駕駛座無車頂形式,可行駛至本礦礦坑內;6、7號為駛座附車頂形式,係於坑外調動車輛;另有一輛無號碼之同型附駕駛座高車頂形式機車行駛於工廠與復興坑區間。其餘尚有加藤10號廢車以及他牌不知名廢車2輛。
